Las Compuertas is one of the oldest and the highest vine-growing regions in Lujan de Cuyo. Thus, it has the coolest climate too. It is home to some of the oldest Malbec vineyards of great quality which grows a selection of ancient massal grapes.

Due to the constant growth of urban centers, today there are only 426 hectares planted with vines left. More than 80% of the vineyards contain Malbec but we can also find Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc, in smaller proportions.

Malbec from Las Compuertas is unique and complex. It combines black fruits, floral notes, spicy notes and mineral notes. Undoubtedly, the most distinctive point is the texture in the mouth with refined and elegant tannins, which can easily be related to some of the more acclaimed zones from Uco Valley.

There are just a few wineries based in Las Compuertas (Cheval des Andes, Riccitelli Wines, Durigutti Winemakers), however, there are a lot based in other zones that source their grapes from here.
